670 - kikiat

According to the book I am reading, the Thai have a concept called "kikiat." It is usually translated as "lazy," but there really is no English word equivalent. "Kikiat" has no negative connotations. A person can declare himself as kikiat, and then he would simply take the day off from activity. A whole workplace might get affected by someone being kikiat, then the place would just slow down to a stop. A person under its spell might just lie in bed, barely moving, unable or unwilling even to get up to make a pot of coffee.
Guess what, I like the concept a lot, especially its lack of a negative connotation. I could embrace it. These days I could embrace it fairly often, except the Western world would have its judgment, as you know, and I would be seen as a lazy slob. Sigh. Sigh.
