Interesting words - Noel Coward
echsdoc
"I have been told that when the body suffers a sharp blow the entire organism reacts immediately; all gland secretions are affected, first-aid units are automatically sent scurrying through ducts and channels to the scene of the trouble, and the bloodstream itself changes its consistency... When the mind suffers a sharp blow I presume that something of the same kind occurs; a general rally is sounded, an immediate anaesthesia administered, either in the form of a fainting fit or temporary incredulity or just merciful numbness. Very few civilized people give way to transports of noisy grief on the receipt of bad news. It is later that the heart aches and the eyes fill with tears."
Noel Coward
