Interesting words - Lillian Hellman
"In looking about me, in looking at me, I have long believed that few people grow wiser with the years. Most of us know more, may have learned a great deal, but I have found very few who come out with what we are told, in our younger years, will be the wisdom of age. Writers, for example, learn skill, learn how to handle material, how to make fewer mistakes, how to write better: nice things, but seldom much more WISDOM than they showed in their early books. And when an attempt, an honorable attempt, is made to gather it all together, which is what the search for wisdom must be about,...it often settles into weary sadness, and resignation is not necessarily wise."
