"If a poet writes a sonnet on a certain subject, and follows this by another sonnet on the same subject, we don't accuse him of writing the same poem over and over again. Nor do we complain that the sonnet form was used up centuries ago, and no longer speaks to our contemporary consciousness. Instead we look at what the poet has done WITHIN the form, at whatever subtle modulation he has made on the interrelationship between form and meaning."
