1572 - grandfathers
Thinking about grandfathers. Did you have grandfathers with impressive craftsman skills? I think of them as having work but also a hobby that we as children watched open-eyed. My maternal grandfather worked as a brakeman on the CStPM & O. At home he was an excellent woodworker. He had a shop in the basement and a shop attached to the garage. He made benches, birdhouses, craftsmen tables, stools, hobby horses for little kids. It is wonderful to see skills like that in the old man. When he was in his coffin, I took special care to look at the scars on his fingers. He was the one who taught me "Measure twice, cut once."
