1578 - Champions
Last night I went down to Memorial Stadium for the Metro championship, which was between the Salt Mine and Roosevelt. It is a curious event for me, having worked for thirty years at the Salt Mine but with my own children going to Roosevelt. The game was a whitewash, as SMHS destroyed RHS 41 - 00. There really was no competition. Even so, it was fun to be there, league championships in football being difficult to acquire. The atmosphere was created by two bands, Garfield's band in the first of the two games, and Roosevelt's band in our game. Both of them were absolutely first rate. The truth is that many a game has achieved pleasure through music rather than through sport!. I had my small role in the SMHS athletic program for thirty years, so I have some habitual interest in the big games. This was the only game I went to in 2014. I might try another one as the playoffs move along.
