Interesting words - Gail Sheehy

I began to grasp that the cultural differences between the ways Americans and Southeast Asians look at time were fundamental. American time runs in a straight line. Like our calendar, it has a beginning and an end and moves between them from point to precisely dissected point. As a result, for us, time must be scheduled, time must not be "lost," time is always "running out." Southeast Asian time runs in a circle. From moon to sun to moon, from rainy season to dry season and back to rainy season, from life to death and rebirth to life again, it returns always to where it started. So time cannot run out.
