Interesting words - Peter Kurth on Dorothy Thompson

Dorothy was especially happy about working in the Dartmouth library because it had open stacks and she was therefore not obliged to fill out a form every time she wanted a book. She explained --and I heartily agree-- that in research work one often has no idea of WHAT one wants to see until one sees it: a chance to roam in the stacks is the equivalent of heaven.
